H2TRAIN

Enabling digital technologies for Holistic Health-lifestyle motivational and assisted supervision supported by Artificial Intelligence Networks

Project Goal

H2TRAIN builds on ECS-SRIA priorities to advance AI-supported digital health and lifestyle technologies. It focuses on biosensors for e-health and sport tracking—an area with rapid market growth. The project addresses key challenges: sensing new biosignals, activity tracking, energy efficiency, and secure AI-based data analysis integrated with IoT. Using innovative 1D and 2D materials (1DM, 2DM) and CMOS technology, H2TRAIN enables more sensitive, efficient, and miniaturized biosensors. It also develops devices for energy harvesting and storage, supporting wearable health-tech. Demonstrators include sensors for sweat, cortisol, lactate, and C-reactive protein, merging sport and health monitoring with embedded AI and IoT connectivity.

Background

2D materials are enabling the development of flexible, miniaturized e-textiles ideal for wearables due to their light weight, breathability, and integration with clothing. Combined with AI and edge computing, these technologies enhance health and fitness tracking. Modern wearables use sensors to monitor vital signs and biomechanics in real time. Applications include remote sports training and e-health services. H2TRAIN leverages in vivo data and partnerships with sports medicine experts to improve algorithms and deliver smart, AI-driven solutions that meet evolving digital challenges in IoT and healthcare.

Importance

H2TRAIN addresses critical challenges in digital health and lifestyle by advancing biosensor and wearable technology through AI, IoT, and next-generation materials. It integrates one- and two-dimensional materials (1DM, 2DM) into CMOS frameworks, enabling miniaturized, energy-efficient, and intelligent health monitoring systems. By combining sensing, data analysis, and embedded intelligence, H2TRAIN creates textile-integrated, flexible e-health solutions applicable in assisted living, sports coaching, and rehabilitation. It strengthens Europe’s position in smart wearables and semiconductor innovation while delivering real-time, secure, and personalized health support. The project also ensures alignment with GDPR and promotes AI-based services with significant societal and economic impact.
