DAC takes part in Europe’s largest project for the digitization of industry

Europe’s largest project for solutions in automation and digitization for the industry has launched on 1st May 2019. Arrowhead Tools has a budget of EUR 91 million.  81 participants from 18 countries work in the consortium and among them are Volvo, Bosch, and Philips.

Arrowhead Tools for digitization of the industry

The purpose of the three-year Arrowhead Tools project is to create engineering tools for the next generation of solutions in digitization and automation for the European industry. These tools will bridge the gap that currently prevents a total integration of IT and operational technology.  Arrowhead Framework will make the new technology available through an open-source platform.

“There is a great need for common standards. Today, different standards are written in thousands of places. Arrowhead Tools is one of the few initiatives that can handle industry demands in the area. Technically, we probably have the most advanced approach available globally” – says Jerker Delsing, professor of Industrial Electronics at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, and coordinator for Arrowhead Tools. in the ArrowheadTool project is among 53 companies from the automotive, mining, electronics and software industries participating in the project with 28 universities and research institutes. 22 industrial user cases will help to test the platform and tools. An important goal of Arrowhead Tools is to create de facto – standards in digitization and automation, including interoperability.

“We believe that Arrowhead Tools will bring great value to all industrial players by reducing the cost of digitization and automation in their companies. This way large scale projects like Arrowhead Tools influence how emerging technologies are shaping the future of most advanced industries.”  – says Mateusz Bonecki, Chief Innovation Officer at

Arrowhead Tools is funded by the participating companies and ECSEL-JU, a public-private partnership for electronic components and systems within EU Horizon 2020, as well as the participating countries. participation in Arrowhead Tools project is supported by National Centre for Research and Development.
